The Eisdell Moore Centre (EMC) at Waipapa Taumata Rau – University of Auckland has been designated as a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Ear and Hearing Care—a major step toward improving hearing health globally and across the Pacific.
Professor Peter Thorne, Director of the Collaborating Centre says this is “about translating knowledge into action for communities where hearing loss is common and services are limited.” Deputy Director Dr Elizabeth Holt highlights the focus on sustainable, culturally informed care through initiatives like child hearing screenings and workforce development.
This designation strengthens EMC’s partnerships with WHO and organisations such as the Fred Hollows Foundation, ensuring solutions are developed with communities, not just for them.
